ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866b: 25 (key), 27 (description) [1867b: 109 (key), 111 (description)].

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, syntypes (missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 27): Scatophaga Mgn / taeniopa Rnd. , Parma / 1432 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Scathophaga taeniopa ( Gorodkov 1986: 34, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 4, Šifner 2003: 77).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866b: 27) described both sexes of Scatophaga taeniopa without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ exemplaria utriusque sexus … legi [I collected specimens of both sexes]”, publishing the species first in a separate (1866b) and then in the journal version (1867b). We found two syntypes in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Scatophaga ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Scathophaga Meigen, 1803 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 161). Šifner (2003: 77) redescribed this nominal species without publishing any lectotype designation.
