Cordylura impudica Rondani, 1866

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866b: 12 (key), 13 (description) [1867b: 96 (key), 97 (description)].

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensi planitie [ Parmese plains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 26): Cordylura Mgn / impudica Rnd. , ♂ / 1412; 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right fore- and hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 26): Cordylura Mgn / impudica Rnd. , ♀ / 1412; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUB: Box 333): 26 03 / Cordylura impudica Rond. , ex a. parmensi / impudica Rndn. , ♂, Parma.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Scathophagidae ( Gorodkov 1986: 40) ; valid species, as Cordilura impudica ( Šifner 2003: 13) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1866b: 13) described both sexes of Cordylura impudica from an unspecified number of specimens, but presumably from more than one specimen because he reported: “ non rara [not rare]”. Rondani published the species first in a separate (1866b) and then in the journal version (1867b). We found five syntypes in this study. An additional MZUF male numbered “1412” is not included in the type series because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition. Rondani listed this nominal species under the generic name “ Cordylura ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Cordilura Fallén, 1810 or subsequent usage of Cordylura Meigen, 1826 . Šifner (2003: 13) redescribed this nominal species without publishing any lectotype designation.
