ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868c: 217 (key), 221 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (antennae on a slide) ( MZUF: Box 29): Tetanocera Dmrl / foveolata Rnd. , Parma / 1513 / Type / T. foveolata Rond., J. Verbeke det., 1963.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Tetanocera arrogans Meigen, 1830 View in CoL ( Rozkošný & Elberg 1984: 189, Rivosecchi 1992a: 240).

REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 221) described Tetanocera foveolata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel foeminam inveni [I collected the female once]”. We found one syntype in this study.
