Copromyza alternata Rondani, 1868 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868b: 31.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Buenos Aires [Buenos Aires ( Argentina)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (both moldy) ( MZUF: Box 72): Copromyza alternata R., Am. Mer. [= South America] / [no identification number].

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Archiborburus alternatus ( Norrbom et al. 2001: 49) ; junior synonym of Maculantrops hirtipes ( Macquart, 1844) ( Kits & Marshall 2013: 91) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1868b: 31) described Copromyza alternata , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from P. Strobel. We found two syntypes in this study. Rondani (1868b) indicated the type locality as Buenos Aires ( Argentina) where Strobel taught from 1865–1867, but the specimens are labeled “ Am. Mer. ” (= “ America Meridionali ”) [South America]. Kits & Marshall (2013) examined the MZUF type material without publishing any lectotype designation.
