ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 96 (key), 113 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1868d: 40) added “ Agr. parm. [= Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing left mid- and hind-legs, abdomen glued to a cardboard stage, terminalia in a microvial, both items pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 19): Sarcophaga Mgn / minima Rnd. , ♂ / 1019 / holotype ♂, Sarcophaga minima Rond., T. Pape det., 1986 .

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Heteronychia Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889 ( Verves 1986: 157) View in CoL ; valid species, as Sarcophaga (Heteronychia) minima View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 11, Pape et al. 1995: 14, Pape 1996: 331, Povolný & Verves 1997: 185, Whitmore 2011: 40; Krčmar et al. 2019: 131).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 113) described Sarcophaga minima from a single male: “ Marem unicum reperi [I found a single male]”. Pape (1988:10) and Whitmore (2011: 40) examined the MZUF holotype.
