Echinomya regalis Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 47 (key), 50 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio … prope Tergestum [Piedmont … near Trieste ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 4 ♀♀ (only two of them are syntypes but they are not labeled as such) with the following labels: 1 ♀ (covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 9), Echinomyia [sic!] Dmrl / regalis Bll. , [illegible word], Alpi, Terges. [Tergestum (= Trieste, Italy)] / 480; 2 ♀♀ ( MRSN), [illegible label] / Echinomyia [sic!] Dum. / regalis Bell., Alpi , ♀; 1 ♀ ( MRSN), Echinomyia [sic!] Dum. / regalis Bell., Alpi , ♀.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Nowickia marklini ( Zetterstedt, 1838) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 271) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 50) described Echinomya regalis from two females: “ speciei unicum exemplar foeminam legit … Prof. Bellardi, et alterum pariter foemineum nuper accepi a D. Schiner [a single female collected by Prof. Bellardi … and recently another female received from Mr. Schiner]”. Rondani attributed the species name to L. Bellardi. We found one female in the MZUF and three in the MRSN without any label indicating their type status. We are unable to single out the two females upon which Rondani based his description. We leave the recognition of the two female syntypes to a future specialist. Two MRSN males are not included in the type series because of their sex .
