Chetolyga cruentata Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 104 (key), 106 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 11): Chetolyga Rndn. / cruentata Rnd. , ♂ / 565; 1 ♀, syntype (missing right hind-leg) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Chetolyga R. cruentata R. 30 ♀ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. C-10 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Winthemia cruentata ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 180, Pape et al. 1995: 19, Cerretti 2010: 175; O’Hara et al. 2020: 534).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 106) described Chetolyga cruentata from two males and one female: “ Duo exemplaria maris et unicum foeminae legi [I collected two specimens of the male sex and a single female]”. We found just two syntypes: one male in the MZUF and one female in the MSNC. The additional male syntype is presumed lost. This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Chetolyga ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chetoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 54).
