ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 42 (key), 44 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus sub-apenninis agri parmensis … in montuosis [ Parmese sub-Apennine ( Italy) hills … mountains]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold, missing right fore- and left mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 9): Cnephalia Rndn. / albisquama Rnd. , ♂ / 476; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Cnephalia albisquama R. 379 Apenn. [= Apennines] / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 5, posiz. A-13 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Spallanzania multisetosa (Rondani, 1859) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 262) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 44) described both sexes of Cnephalia albisquama without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Mas a me bis lectus …, foemina semel capta [the male collected twice …, the female once]”. Herting (1969: 190) reported a single male in the MZUF. We found two syntypes in this study: one male in the MZUF and one specimen (sex not determinable) in the MSNC.
