Cnephalia alpestris Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 155.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in alpibus insubriae [ Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold, missing mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 9): Cnephalia Rndn. / alpestris Rnd. , ♂, Mont. [= Mountains] / 478 .
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Spallanzania rectistylum ( Macquart, 1847) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 263) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 155) described Cnephalia alpestris from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ lectus mas tantum [collected the male only]”. We found one syntype in this study. Two females in the MZUF numbered “478” are not included in the type series because of their sex.
