Clairvillia flavipalpis Rondani, 1868 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868d: 603.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Sicilia ad nebrodes [ Nebrodi mountains , Sicily ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right hind-leg) ( MZUF: Box 16): Clairvillia Desv. / pallipalpis [sic!] Rnd., Sicil. / 818.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Clairvillia biguttata ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 422) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1868d: 603) described Clairvillia flavipalpis from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from F. Minà Palumbo. We did not find any specimens under this name, but did find one male under the name Clairvillia pallipalpis , which could be a misspelling of “ flavipalpis ” given that Rondani never described a species named “ pallipalpis ”. We consider this latter specimen as a syntype. A MZUF female under the name pallipalpis numbered “819” is not included in the type series because of its sex.
