ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868b: 37.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Buenos Aires ( Bahia Blanca ) [Buenos Aires (White Bay) ( Argentina)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 71): Agelanius duplovittatus Rnd., Am. M. [= South America] / Type A. duplovittatus Rnd., C.B. Philip, 1964 / [no identification number]; 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one covered with mold, missing both mid- and left hind-legs, the other missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 71): Agelanius duplovittatus Rnd., Am. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Tabanus angustus Macquart, 1838 View in CoL ( Fairchild 1971: 88, Coscarón & Papavero 2009: 124).
REMARKS: Rondani (1868b: 37) described Agelanius duplovittatus without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from P. Strobel. Rondani (1868b) indicated the type locality as Buenos Aires ( Argentina) where Strobel taught from 1865–1867, but the specimens are labeled “ Am. Mer. ” (= “ America Meridionali ”) [South America]. Philip (1965a: 122), Coscarón & Philip (1967: 236) and Fairchild (1971: 88) reported three female syntypes in the MZUF. We also found three syntypes in this study.
