Sphiximorpha petronillae Rondani, 1850 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850b: 213.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie prope padana Parmensis ditionis [Parmese plains near the Po valley ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 8): Sphiximorpha Rndn. / petronillae Rnd. / 373 / lectotype Sphecomorpha [sic!] petronillae Rondani, 1850 , design. Van Steenis, 2016.
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 8): Sphiximorpha Rndn. / petronillae Rnd. , ♀ / 373 / paralectotype Sphecomorpha [sic!] petronillae Rondani, 1850 , design. van Steenis, 2016.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 180, Belcari et al. 1995a: 17, Steenis et al. 2016: 197).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850b: 213) described Sphiximorpha petronillae from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study: “ Faemina tantum speciei a me tecta [sic!] [= lecta ] fuit [only the female of the species was collected by me]”. Van Steenis et al. (2016: 197) designated a lectotype (♀) and paralectotype (♀) and mistakenly reported that Rondani ascribed this nominal species to the genus Sphecomorpha Bezzi, 1906 .
