ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871b: 18.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in tota Italia [in all Italy]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin) ( MZUF: Box 31): Tephritis Latr. / divisa Rnd. , ♀ / 1657 / ♀ / lectotype Tephritis divisa Rondani , det. B. Merz, 1992 .
PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 5 ♂♂ (all double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin, one completely covered with mold; one missing head and left legs) ( MZUF: Box 31): Tephritis Latr. / divisa Rnd. ♂ / 1657; 5 ♀♀ (two double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin; one very moldy; one completely covered with mold; one with head and thorax partially eaten by dermestids, missing left wing) ( MZUF: Box 31): Tephritis Latr. / divisa Rnd. ♀ / 1657.
CURRENT STATUS: subspecies of Tephritis conjuncta ( Loew, 1844) ( Foote 1984: 133) ; valid species, as Tephritis divisa ( Merz 1992: 236, Merz 1994: 67, Belcari et al. 1995b: 11, Norrbom et al. 1999: 216).
REMARKS: Rondani (1871b: 18) described divisa as a variety of Tephritis conjuncta ( Loew, 1844) , without specifying the number, sex or length of the specimens. Merz (1992: 236) designated a lectotype (♀) and paralectotypes (5 ♂♂, 5 ♀♀).
