Ortalis fastuosa Rondani, 1869
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869a: 30.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio [Piedmont ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, in poor condition) ( MRSN): 9 / Ortalis fastuosa Rond., Dogliano [near Asti (Piedmont)] .
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Otites formosa (Panzer, 1798) ( Soós 1984c: 48) ; valid species, as Otites fastuosa ( Belcari et al. 1995b: 6) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 30) described Ortalis fastuosa without specifying the exact number of specimens: “ bis tantum in Pedemontio lecta [collected in Piedmont twice only]”, from material received from G. Genè and L. Bellardi. Soós (1983: 257) incorrectly designated a male neotype in the MZUF (Box 31) labeled: 1621 / Ortalis Fall. / fastuosa Rnd., Pedem. / Bois Champeaux, 3/6/77. The specimen in the MRSN, which Soós (1983: 258) also mentioned, actually belongs to Rondani’s original type series and its presence thus invalidates Soós’s neotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 75.8).
