Otites nubila Rondani, 1856 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 109.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Otites nebulosa (Olivier, 1811) ( Soós 1984c: 49) .
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 109) key for the genus Otites Latreille, 1804 lists Otites nubila as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. Rondani (1869a: 12) considered Otites nubila as a junior synonym of Otites bucephala (Meigen, 1830) . We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. The MZUF does not contain any specimen named Otites nubila but, under the name Otites bucephala , there are six specimens (all non-types): one male, three females and two specimens of undetermined sex. We leave the study of these latter specimens to a future specialist for the recognition of the type series of Otites nubila Rondani, 1856 . Evenhuis & Pape (2020) incorrectly considered Otites nubila as a nomen nudum.
