TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis … in Pedemontio … in Etruria [Parmese hills … Piedmont … Etruria (= Tuscany) ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (missing all but the thorax and right wing, double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin) ( MZUF: Box 30): Melieria Desv. / parmensis Rnd. , Parma / 1597 / lectotype Melieria parmensis Rnd. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1978.
PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (missing abdomen) ( MZUF: Box 30): Melieria Desv. / parmensis Rnd. , Parma / 1597 / paralectotype Melieria parmensis Rnd. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1978; 2 ♀♀ ( MZUF: Box 30): Melieria Desv. / parmensis Rnd., Etr. [= Etruria (Tuscany) ], Parma / 1597 / paralectotype Melieria parmensis Rnd. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1978.
SLIDE: Genitalia and abdomen on slide n° 19 (Box Diptera Rondani 3): Melieria parmensis Soós des., Paralectotypus n. 1597.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Hypochra parmensis ( Soós 1984c: 50, Belcari et al. 1995b: 6); valid species, as Melieria parmensis ( Kameneva 1997: 41) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 19) described Melieria parmensis without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens he had collected and also received from L. Bellardi, F.M. Piccioli and A.H. Haliday. Soós (1983: 255) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 2 ♀♀). Not included by him in the type series is an additional MZUF specimen numbered “1597”, presumably because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and thus could be a later addition.
