Aegomorphus signatifrons Santos-Silva et al. (2020a): 36 View in CoL (comb. nov.); Monné 2021 (cat).

Type locality: holotype (female) – Ecuador, Naranjito ( MNRJ) ( Fig. 10h View Fig ).( Figs. 2a View Fig , 10h View Fig ). Pronotum with elongated lateral tubercle (Fig. 4b, 10h). Elytral apex with outer margin projected in a spine ( Fig. 10h View Fig ) .

Diagnosis. Frons and elytra with small punctures ( Figs. 2a View Fig , 10h View Fig ). Pronotum with elongated lateral tubercle (Fig. 4b, 10h). Elytral apex with outer margin projected in a spine ( Fig. 10h View Fig ).

Distribution. Ecuador [El Oro, Guayas] (Fig. S4b).

Remarks. The taxonomic history of P. signatifrons is a good example of the problems in the definition of Acanthoderes and Aegomorphus . In the original description of this species, Zajciw (1964) highlighted the presence of the internal seta in the elytral punctures as distinct within the species of Acanthoderes , but did not mention the feature in Plistonax . Our phylogenetic analyses suggest that this species is closer to Plistonax (Fig. 7). P. signatifrons is known only from Ecuador. It was not possible to investigate the type material, which was lost in a fire that destroyed many specimens housed in the Museu Nacional (MNRJ) in 2018. However, there is a photographic register of the holotype digitally available in Monné et al. (2021).
