Macropes dentipes Motschulsky, 1859 View in CoL
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 H; 3A, F)
Macropes dentipes Motschulsky, 1859 , Etud. Ent. 8, 108.
Macropes privus Distant, 1909 , Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. (8) 3, 325; Zheng & Zou, 1981a, 73; Hua, 2000, 190.
This species was originally recorded as M. privus Distant in China (Zheng & Zou 1981a; Hua 2000); Kerzhner and Jansson (1985) synonymized M. privus with M. dentipes . It has been recorded only from Taiwan of China. We found more specimens from Hainan and Yunnan provinces of China in recent years.
There is a difference between the specimens we examined from Hainan and Yunnan of China and those described by Slater and Wilcox (1973) from India and Taiwan of China: the labium of specimens from Hainan and Yunnan attains the posterior margin of prosternum or anterior margin of mesosternum (labium attains posterior margin of mesosternum in Slater & Wilcox [1973]). Additionally, we provide figures of pygophore opening and paramere ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 , F).
Material examined. China: 2 males, Yulingu, Tianchi, Jianfengling National Nature Reserve, Hainan, 1. IV. 2008, 700– 800 m, Bo Cai, Gengping Zhu; 1 female, Liyue, Jingdong, Yunnan, 6. XI. 2001, 1700 m, Weibing Zhu.
Distribution. China: Hainan, Taiwan and Yunnan; Sri Lanka and India.
