Type: — CROATIA. Southern Dalmatia: Isola di Lastovo, Skrivena luka, Sud Dalmazia , 28 July 2006, Bogdanović s.n. (holotype CAT!; isotypes CAT!, ZAGR!) ( Figs. 11 View FIGURE 11 , 40 View FIGURE 40 ) .

Diagnosis: — Planta pubescens , densis rosulis foliorum apice caudicularum, foliis rugosis, spathulatis, retusis apice, revolutis margine, 1-nerviis, scapis numerosis, erectis ad adscendentibus, ramis sterilibus numerosis, inflorescentia reticulata, ramosa, spicis rectis ad curvatis, bractea inferiore ovata, obtusa dense pubescente, bractea superiore obovato-subrotundata, late obtusa, calice tubo dense piloso, lobis ovato-triangularis, subobtusis.

Description: —Plant perennial, 15–35 cm tall, pubescent, (hairs 0.1–0.15 mm long), with robust tap-root. Caudices branched, 2–5 cm long, with dense leaf rosettes at the apex. Leaves rigid, rugose, pubescent, green, 13–35 mm long, 2–7 mm wide, spathulate, retuse, revolute at the margin, 1-nerved, gradually tapering into a long petiole. Stems numerous, erect to ascending, rugose, with numerous sterile branches, flexuous, fragile at nodes, very branched, diverging at the angle of 60–180°, internodes 4–16 mm long, right to curved. BOGDANOVIĆ & BRULLO reticulate, branched from the base; spikes 8–25 mm long, straight to curved. Spikelets 5–5.5 mm long, 2–flowered, 4–6 per cm; outer bract 1.5–1.7 mm long, 1.4–1.6 mm wide, ovate, obtuse, with margin narrowly membranous, glabrous and central part fleshy, acuminate, densely hairy; middle bract 1.6–1.7 mm long, 1.3–1.5 mm wide, ovate, rounded at the apex, membranous, hairy on the veins; inner bract 3.2–3.5 mm long, 2.7–2.9 mm wide, obovate-subrounded, widely obtuse, margin membranous, glabrous, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, with central part fleshy, 1.8–2 mm wide, densely hairy, apiculate, forming a triangular tip, 0.4–0.5 mm long, no reaching the upper margin. Calyx 3.7–4.3 mm long, exserted 1–1.5 mm from the inner bract, tube densely hairy, with 5 totally hairy ribs, reaching almost the upper part of the lobes; calyx lobes 0.5–0.9 × 0.6–0.7 mm, triangular-ovate, glabrous, subobtuse. Corolla lilac.

Etymology: —From “Lagosta” the old name of Lastovo island.

Distribution and ecology: —This species is exclusive of the island of Lastovo and some neighbouring islets (Kopište and Bijelac), where it is very rare ( Fig. 29M View FIGURE 29 ). It grows in the narrow belt between the shoreline and the pinewoods, forming halophilous communities.
