Material examined. Kiseni, Kakamega Forest, 0°17′N 34°51′E, 1550 m, 2 ♂, 2 imm., 19–21 January 1969; the same locality, 1 ♂, 19 January 1969; the same locality, among litter, 2 ♂, 1 ♀, 27 January 1979; the same locality, among moss on tree trunks, 2 ♂, 27 January 1979.
Description. Male. General appearance as in Figs 2, 3 View FIGURES 2 – 4 . Carapace with a shallow constriction behind eye field, cephalic part higher than thoracic part, widest at the last row of eyes, dark brown, surroundings of eyes darkest. Eye field slightly pitted, thoracic part with granulate sculpture. A few long bristles near eyes, sparse colourless hairs on thoracic part. Clypeus very low. Mouth parts brown, sternum orange with darker margins. Chelicerae orange-brown, long, with large distal prolateral spur; promargin with four teeth, retromargin with seven small teeth ( Figs 4–6 View FIGURES 2 – 4 View FIGURES 5 – 11 ). Large triangular lobe on retrolateral side of chelicerae, small protrusion on ventral surface. Abdomen with constriction, black and iridescent, clothed in thin long translucent hairs, two scuta on dorsum. White oblique spot on each side of constriction. Venter dark. Spinnerets short, yellowish brown. Coxae light yellowish, black line on prolateral side of legs III and IV. Legs yellow, only femora I brown, black line along prolateral side of legs III and IV. Patella I with a single ventral spine, tibia with four or five pairs of spines ventrally, metatarsus with two pairs. Pedipalps light brown, palpal tibia short, with swellings of different size on its retrolateral side (in some specimens poorly developed), four blunt denticles on retrolateral tip of tibia ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5 – 11 ); embolus long, encircling the bulb twice ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 11 ). Tibial apophysis hidden in cymbial groove, sickle-shaped with a barb ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 11 ). Dimensions. Cephalothorax: length 1.9–2.7, width 1.2–1.7, height 0.6–0.9. Abdomen: length 2.1–3.1, width 1.0–1.5. Eye field: length 1.0–1.4, anterior width 1.0–1.5, posterior width 1.1–1.6.
Female. Similar to male, but without abdominal constriction. White transverse band present. Chelicerae with four teeth on promarginal edge and seven on retromarginal. Epigyne with central depression resembling a turned triangle ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5 – 11 ). Internal structures as in Fig. 11 View FIGURES 5 – 11 , with very large granulate accessory glands. Dimensions. Cephalothorax: length 2.1, width 1.3, height 0.7. Abdomen: length 2.6, width 1.3. Eye field: length 1.0, anterior width 1.1, posterior width 1.2.
Distribution. Known from Congo ( Zaire), Angola and Fernando Po. It is the first record of this species from Kenya.
