Associated material. Senegal: 7 ll, 38 1 9 to 53.5 1 12 mm, 18 mm, 27 1 7 to 61.5 1 14.5 mm, and 7 juveniles, 17.5 1 4.5 to 40 1 9.5 mm ( RMNH CANCAP collections) , Cape Verde Peninsula, 1982, F. C. Roest .

Generic and speci W c identi W cation. Miller and Smith (1989) discuss the generic position of this species and its identi®cation in previous material from the Cape Verdes where it was noted from Baia das Gatas, Ilha de Sa Äo Vicente, by Paes da Franca and Vasconcelos (1962). Comparison of the island material with that from the adjoining Cape Verde peninsula (table 1) and other West African areas ( Miller and Smith, 1989) indicates no major insular di OEerentiation.

Biology. This species has been found in high level tide-pools and also sublittorally in 2±4 m at an open sand /rock boundary (U. Schliewen, pers. comm.).
