Description. FEMALE. Fore wing 14.4 mm.

Head. Ventral tooth of mandible slightly longer than dorsal tooth. Clypeus apical area delimited by sharp bor- der or carina ( Fig. 120); clypeal margin with two small teeth. Antenna with 26 flagellomeres; white band starting at flagellomere VI; 5 flagellomeres at least 50% white.

Mesosoma . Mesopleuron glabrous or nearly so, very weakly strigate. Subalar prominence narrow, elongate, carinate. Sulcus between sternaulus and scrobe absent. Posterior transverse carina of mesosternum absent. Lower metapleuron finely strigate. Propodeum ( Fig. 64), area in front of anterior transverse carina polished, smooth, medially without traces of longitudinal ridges. Propodeal apophyses developed as weak scale-like structures. Posterior transverse carina indistinct. Area between anterior transverse carina and petiolar foramen transversely crossed by about 30 fine, slightly arched strigae. Fore wing in Fig. 208; vein 3-Cu 1.45 length of 4-Cu. Hind wing in Fig. 248.

Metasoma. Postpetiole dorso-anteriorly flat; dorsolateral and median dorsal carinae absent; petiolar spiracles in dorsal view not prominent. Ovipositor 1.41 length of hind tibia. Apex of lower valve with 15 teeth.

Color. Head and mesosoma light orange; metasoma main color black, with yellow stripes. Lateral pattern as in Fig. 63. Orbital band inconspicuous behind, present on supraclypeal and supra-antennal areas, width about 0.2 of interocular distance. Labrum pale yellow. Mesosoma unicolorous, without yellow or black marks of any kind ( Figs 63, 64). Fore and mid legs colored as pleural region from coxa to femur; fore tibia and t1–3 and mid tibia and t1–2 dusty yellow; fore t4–5 and mid t3–5 dark brown; hind coxa, trochanter and trochantellus color slightly darker than lower metapleuron; hind femur at about basal 0.5 reddish (204,051,000), apically black; hind tibia black, except basal 0.1 white; hind tarsus white, except t1 basal 0.3 and t5 apical half dark brown to black. Metasoma lateral color pattern as in Fig. 63; in dorsal view T1 basal 0.7 orange, apical 0.3 black, except apical margin with large whitish spot on each side, almost meeting medially; T3–4 black, apically with complete, narrow, pale yellow stripe; T3 behind each thyridium with diffuse orange spot; T4 black, apically with complete pale yellow stripe medially very narrowed; T5–7 black, apical stripe widely interrupted, almost entirely absent dorsally; T8 black.

Morphological variation. Fore wing 14.3–15.4 mm. Ovipositor 1.32–1.47 length of hind tibia. All taxonomically relevant features for females were coded for all examined specimens and cladistically analyzed in the item “The D. inflatus complex.” Further variation: fore and mid legs, except apical tarsomeres, uniformly colored as pleural region; T3 apical yellow stripe medially narrowed; T4 apical yellow stripe medially from briefly to widely interrupted. Specimens from Brazil have hind femur apex blackish, otherwise light orange as respective coxa, and metasoma T2 without orange spot behind thyridium.

MALE. Based on the homotype of Cryptus sutor Fabricius , designated by V. K. Gupta. Structurally similar to female, but antenna with 32 flagellomeres, white band with 7, starting at flagellomere X; overall sculpturing weaker; propodeal apophyses absent. Color pattern differs considerably from female, as follows: head main color orange (thus distinctly more red than light orange mesosoma); ocellar area and supra-antennal area near toruli brown; pale orbital band complete, clearly delimited; supraclypeal area entirely yellow. Fore tibia whitish, dorsally and ventrally with longitudinal brown streak; fore t1–4 whitish with light brownish tone; mid tibia whitish; mid tarsus from basally brown to apically dark brown; hind coxa apically, on mesal and lateral sides, blackish; hind trochanter, trochantellus and femur entirely black; hind tibia and tarsus as for female. Metasoma T1 changing progressively from basally light orange to apically black, except apical 0.15 white; T2 black; T3 basal 0.3 black, apical 0.7 white; T4–5 black; T6 black, each side subapically with white spot; T7 white, except basal 0.15 and linear streak along apex black.

Morphological variation. Posterior transverse carina of propodeum weak but distinct; orbital band posteriorly weak, or interrupted between 11–1 h and 4–6 h; supra-antennal area entirely brown; mid tibia ventrally brown; hind coxa dorso-laterally with white spot; T2 apically with transverse white streak; T6 fully black.

Comments. The cladistic analysis including the variation of all available female specimens suggests that D. coloratus , D. sutor , D. pulchripes and D. inflatus are indeed distinct species. The separation of D. coloratus and D. sutor , however, is based on a few features, if only females are considered: in D. coloratus , the propodeum between posterior transverse carina and base of petiole is transversely crossed by about 8 complete, strong wrinkles, and the posterior transverse carina is well developed; in D. sutor there are nearly four times more wrinkles, which are also very fine, and the posterior transverse carina is not evident. Males of D. sutor have a wide white stripe on apical margin of T1, T3 and T7, while males of D. coloratus have a narrow stripe on T1–7. The extension of black on the hind femur is highly variable for all species of the inflatus group and seems to be of no taxonomic relevance. The possibility of synonymy is discussed under D. coloratus .
