Diagnosis. Face yellow with a pair of large brown rectangular spots. Antenna yellowish brown. Palpus yellow. Wing with a brown apical spot on R2+3, R4+5 and M1 extending to tip of veins, entirely confluent, separated, or apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 confluent, separated from M1; basal edges of apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 slightly behind vertical level of spot on dm-cu; basal edges of apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 with same vertical level, or basal edge of apical spot on R4+5 before that on R2+3; a hyaline triangular spot between tip of R2+3 and R4+5 if all apical spots confluent; an elliptical or round brown spot on R4+5 situated between middle point of distance between r-m and dmcu, basal edge of apical spot on M1 behind that on R4+5; a brown stripe-like spot constricted at middle on dm-cu, upper margin of spot wide bar-like. Abdomen yellow, without spot.
Description. MALE. Body length 5.9–6.8 mm, wing length 5.7–7.0 mm. FEMALE. Body length 6.0– 6.7 mm, wing length 5.8–6.5 mm.
Head yellow. Frons brownish yellow, with a pair of pale brown medial stripes extending to ocellar triangle and a pair of narrow brown lateral stripes along or rows, extending to vti, as long as wide and parallel-sided; ocellar triangle pale brown; oc developed, nearly as long as anterior or. Face yellow with a pair of large brown rectangular spots. Gena about 1/7 height of eye. Antenna yellowish brown, 1st flagellomere about 1.7 times as long as high; arista black except for pale brown base, ray plumose, with longest ray slightly shorter than height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis and palpus yellow.
Thorax yellow with sparse grayish white pruinosity. Mesonotum with 0+3 dc (1st post-sutural dc behind transverse suture), acr in 10 rows, uniformly short hair-like; prsc longer than 1st post-sutural dc. Scutellum yellow. Legs yellow, except for tarsomeres 3–5 brown. Fore femur with 4 strong pv and 8 pd, and ctenidium with 16 short setae; fore tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 5–6 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 3 strong apv. Hind femur with a row of weak av (only 3 apical setae distinct) and 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ) slightly yellow, with brown apical spots on R2+3, R4+5 and M1 extending to tip of veins, entirely confluent, separated, or apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 confluent, separated from M1; basal edges of apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 slightly behind vertical level of spot on dm-cu; basal edges of apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 with same vertical level, or basal edge of apical spot on R4+5 before that on R2+3; a hyaline triangular spot between tip of R2+3 and R4+5 if all apical spots confluent; an elliptical or round brown spot on R4+5 situated at middle point of distance between r-m and dm-cu, basal edge of apical spot on M1 behind that on R4+5; a brown spot constricted at middle on dm-cu, upper margin of spot wide bar-like; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 5.3:1.1:1; r-m before middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 1:1.6; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/8 of penultimate. Halter yellow except for knob slightly yellowish brown.
Abdomen brownish yellow, with grayish white pruinosity. Male genitalia ( Figs 102–106 View FIGURES 102 – 106 ): syntergosternite circular with a ventral bridge; epandrium broad without long dorsal setae, with three or four acute teeth on anterior ventral corner; surstylus with a claw-shaped process with sparse setulae; hypandrium H-shaped with a setula on lateral arms; postgonite long, consisting of a bifurcated process and a subuliform process; aedeagus S-shaped with a small lateral process in lateral view and with a pair of triangular basal processes and a small incision in ventral view; aedeagal apodeme shorter than aedeagus.
Type material. Holotype ♂ ( SYSU), CHINA, Kwangtung (Guangdong Province): Keung Tin Heung, Linhsien District, 13–14. VII. 1934, F. K. To. Paratypes: CHINA, Guangdong Province: 1 ♀ ( SYSU), data same as holotype (antenna missing); 1 ♂ ( SYSU), Keung Tin Heung, Lin-hsien District, 13–14. VII. 1934, F. K. To; 1 ♂ ( SYSU), Cheung-nga San, Tin-tong, Loh-chang District, 19. VIII. 1947 (no collector); 1 ♂ ( SYSU), Keung Tin Heung, Lin-hsien District, 16–17. VII. 1934, F. K. To (antenna missing); 1 ♀ ( SYSU), Lechang, Tiantiang, Xiangyashan, 1000 m, 19. VIII. 1947 (no collector).
Distribution. China (Guangdong).
Remarks. The new species is similar to Homoneura (H.) grandis (Kertész) from China ( Taiwan) and Vietnam in the following characters: wing with brown apical spots on R2+3, R4+5 and M1, extending to tip of vein; an elliptical or round brown spot on R4+5 situated at middle point of distance between r-m and dm-cu; abdomen yellow without spot. But it can be separated from the latter by the face having a pair of large brown spots, the basal edges of the apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 having same vertical level of spot on dm-cu (slightly behind vertical level of spot on dm-cu in a few of specimens); the basal edges of the apical spots on R2+3 and R4+5 having same vertical level or the basal edge of the apical spot on R4+5 being before that on R2+3; the tip of surstylus being hooked apically. In Homoneura (H.) grandis (Kertész) , the face has no spot; the basal edge of the apical spot on R2+3 has same vertical level of dm-cu; the apical spots on R4+5 situates slightly behind vertical level of dm-cu; the surstylus is contorted apically.
Etymology. Latin, denticulata , meaning with teeth, denticulate; referring to the epandrium with three or four teeth on anterior ventral corner; a feminine adjective.
