Diagnosis: General coloration of body brown, grayish polinose; antenna and palpus dark brown; dorsocentral setae 2+3, katepisternal setae 2+2; hind tibia with four anterodorsal setae, 2–3 anteroventral setae and three posterodorsal setae; lower and upper calypters same size; wing hyaline with brown maculae on crossveins r-m and dm-cu ( Figs. 12–13 View FIGURES 12–15 ); ventral surface of C vein ciliated ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–11 ). Body length (male and female): 4.0– 5.2 mm. Wing length: 3.2–4.7 mm.
Material examined: CHILE: Juan Fernández , Robinson Crusoe Island: 3 males and 4 females, Bahia Cumberland, 1–11.i.1993, Marshall & Gonzalez ; 1 male and 1 female, Mirador Selkirk , 24-28.i.1992, S. A. Marshall ; 1 female, open forest above Plazoleta, S. A. Marshall.
Reference: Malloch (1934).
Distribution: Bolivia and Chile (including Juan Fernández Archipelago) ( Malloch, 1934, Hennig 1955).
Biology: There are no biological studies on this species.
Comments: Hennig (1955) identified 21 specimens of Anthomyia limbinervis from the Robinson Crusoe Island and one from Alejandro Selkirk Island ( Table 1).
