Type:— CHINA. Sichuan: Kangding, 3700m, July 1908, Wilson 2139 (syntype A!, isosyntypes BM!, CAS!, US!, ♂ only, digital image examined).
Heterotypic synonym:— Salix annulifera var. glabra P.Y. Mao & W.Z. Li (1987: 49) . Type: CHINA. Yunnan, Dêqên County, 4100 m, 17 July 1937, T. T. Yu 9050 (holotype-KUN1208289!, isotypes PE×2!, ♂).— S. floccosa Burkill (1899: 529) . pro parte. Type: CHINA. Yunnan: Lijiang, 4000 m, 13 August 1886, Delavay 2200 (syntypes P×2!, ♀, digital image examined) ; fentes de rochers, au dessus du col de Yen-tzé-hay, 3500 m, 18 July 1887, Delavay 3105 (syntypes P×2!, ♀, digital image examined); Coteaux rocailleux du Lao long tong au-dessus du Col de Yen-Tzé-hay, 3500 m, 6 June 1888, Delavay 4323 (syntypes P×3!, K!, ♂ & ♀, digital image examined).
Shrubs, 0.2–0.5 (3) m. Branches dull brown; branchlets dull brown or purplish brown, short and thick, glabrous or subglabrous. Petiole 0.7–2.1 cm, pubescent; leaf blade elliptic or obovate-elliptic, 1.5–5.9 × 1–3.8 cm, abaxially grayish white, pilose when young, glabrescent, adaxially dark green, pubescent along midvein, base broadly cuneate, obtuse or subrounded, margin sparsely glandular serrate or entire, apex acute or obtuse; veins conspicuous. Catkins terminal on juvenile branchlets; male catkin 2–3.5 (5.6) × 0.6–1.3 cm; peduncle 0.5–2.4 cm, with 3–6 leaflets; rachis pubescent; female catkin 2.7–6 cm, peduncle 0.9–3.9 cm, with 3–6 leaflets; floral bract oblong, 1.7–3.2 mm, glabrous or abaxially pilose and ciliate, apex obtuse or slightly acute. Male flower: abaxial gland 0.4–0.66 mm, adaxial narrowly ovate, 0.79–0.92 mm; stamens 2; filaments distinct, 2.4–4.6 mm, basally downy or sometimes glabrous; anthers yellow, ovoid. Female flower: adaxial gland ovate, 0.47–1 mm, abaxial gland sometimes present; stipe 0–0.36 mm; ovary ovoid, glabrous, sometimes pilose; styles distinct 1/2 their lengths, 0.8–1.8 mm; stigmas 0.3–0.66 mm, 2-lobed. Capsules 2.3–6.1 mm.
Phenology:—Flowering from early June to mid July, and fruiting in August and September.
Habitat:—Thickets on mountains; 3400–4700 m.
Distribution:—Western Sichuan, eastern Xizang and northwestern Yunnan.
Note:— Mao & Li (1987) described S. annulifera var. glabra based on T.T. Yu 9050 from Dêqên County, Yunnan. The specimens of T.T. Yu 9050 has elliptic and obovate-elliptic leaves, 2.85–3.88 × 1.71–2.06 cm, short peduncle, 0.61–1.12 cm, flora bract entire, which fit S. opsimantha . S. annulifera var. glabra is here synonymized under S. opsimantha .
