Remarks
This species has previously been reported from the Prefectures of Okayama, Fukuoka, Gunma ( Okubo 1990, 2004) and Ishikawa ( Smith and Kamiya 2007). It is commonly found in rice fields and the watercourses associated with them (e.g. irrigation ditches and ponds) ( Okubo 1990, 2004). Smith and Kamiya (2007) reported this species from a man-made pond in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, living in the littoral zone on a muddy substrate. Okubo (2004; citing Janz et al. 2001) reported this species living at a depth of 20 m in Lake Biwa. This survey collected F. japonica from depths ranging from the littoral zone to 22 m.
