( Fig. 32 View FIGURE 32 )

Pleuroprion iturupicum Kussakin & Mezhov, 1979: 145–148 , figs 3–4. — Kussakin, 1982: 435–437, figs 323–324.

Material examined: Paratype female, ZIN RAS cat. no. 3/49358, station 44, South Kurile Islands , Iturup Island .

Diagnosis: Body with numerous small tubercles; mid-dorsally pair of somewhat longer, robust spines; pereonite 4 0.18 times body length; posteriorly narrow, twice as long as second and third together. Pleotelson short, with numerous small tubercles and pairs of short spines, posterior margin rounded, large lateral spine near ventral margin. Antennula short, reaching little beyond distal end of second peduncular segment of antenna. Antenna short and robust, about 0.6 of total body length. Spines on basis of pereopods 5 to 7. Oostegites present on pereopod 5, as small lobes.

Remarks: Detailed examination of the mouthparts, the pleopods and the uropods was not possible. Kussakin & Mezhov (1979) provided only illustrations of the lateral view of the habitus, first antenna, maxilliped and pereopods 1, 2 and 7. The same illustrations were provided by Kussakin (1982). From Kussakin & Mezhov (1979) and our observations it is clear that the species fits well into Spectrarcturus . The species can be distinguished from other species of Spectrarcturus on the body shape, the numerous small tubercles on the body and the shape of the pleotelson. The male is not known.

Distribution: Kurile Islands, at depth between 125–146 m ( Kussakin & Mezhov 1979).
