Traponora macrospora Aptroot (2010: 58) . ( Fig. 3E )

This species is characterized by the superficial, closely appressed ascomata with a red-brown disc and cream to brown margins, an inspersed hymenium and relatively large, thick-walled ascospores (13–18 × 6–9 μm).

Distribution and habitat:—This species was previously known from Papua New Guinea where it was found growing on bark in forest relict between 1700 and 1950 m. The Thai specimen was collected in northern Thailand in a dry, open dipterocarp forest at 860 m.

Material from Thailand examined:— Chiang Mai province: foothills of Doi Suthep-Pui near Mae Rim, in a dry, open dipterocarp forest, 860 m, 18°53’ N, 98°51’ E, 18 March 2008, K. Kalb et al. 36844 (Hb. K. Kalb).

Remarks:—A monograph of this genus with the description of new species was presented by Aptroot (2009). Unfortunately, these descriptions were invalid, because they were not accompanied by Latin diagnoses. That omission was subsequently corrected in Aptroot (2010). Another species belonging in this genus is Traponora varians (Ach.) J. Kalb & Kalb , comb. nov. Mycobank MB823632, Basionym: Lecidea varians Ach., Syn. Meth. Lich. : 38 (1814), Syn. Pyrrhospora varians (Ach.) R. C. Harris (1985: 46) . Material examined: U.S. A. Florida: Polk county, seven miles east of Avon Park in a dry scrub area with palmetto, oak and pine, on scrub pine, 21 December 1965, C. M. Wetmore 13795 [as Lecidea varians ] (Hb. K. Kalb 33668).

This species is similar to others of this genus ( T. macrospora and T. pallid a Aptroot (KK 40799) examined for comparison) in having a variable colour of the ascomata within one thallus, Lecanora - type asci and paraphses with a distinctly enlarged endcell.
