Names.
Myanmar: kya-ni. English: Indian red water-lily.
Range.
Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. Common in warmer parts of Myanmar.
Conservation status.
Least Concern [LC] ( IUCN 2017).
Uses.
Flower: Used as a blood purifier and febrifuge.
Notes.
The medicinal uses of this species in India are discussed in Jain and DeFilipps (1991) as follows: The flower is decocted and used for heart palpitations; the rootstock is powdered and used for piles, diarrhea, and dyspepsia. Perry (1980) discusses the uses of Nymphaea species in Indo-China and the Philippines.
