Discussion. As with Dineutus (Rhombodineutus) heurni , this species was described from material collected by the Archbold Expeditions in the mountains to the south of the Idenberg River in west-central New Guinea. New collections now extend the range of this species westward into the Wapoga River Basin ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ), where it occurs at elevations slightly lower than those at which D. heurni was encountered (see Table 1).
For ecological notes on this species see the discussion under D. heurni , with which this species is occasionally syntopic at elevations below 300 m. Based on known collections, this species occupies the Mamberamo Foreland area of freshwater endemism (Area 17) as defined by Polhemus & Allen (2007).
This species, in combination with Dineutus (Rhombodineutus) tetracanthus tetracanthus and Dineutus (Rhombodineutus) heurni , was grouped under the composite listing of “ Rhombodinetus sp. undet.” from Station 50 in Polhemus (2000).
