Sorex (Ognevia) mirabilis Ognev 1937 View in CoL
Sorex (Ognevia) mirabilis Ognev 1937 View in CoL , Byull. Moskow Ova. Ispyt. Prir. Otd. Biol., 46 (5): 268.
Type Locality: Russia, Primorskii Krai, Ussuriiskii r-n., Kamenka River (specified by Pavlinov and Rossolimo (1987).
Vernacular Names: Ussuri Shrew.
Synonyms: Sorex (Ognevia) kutscheruki Stroganov 1956 .
Distribution: N and S Korea, NE China, and Ussuri region ( Russia).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Placed in monotypic subgenus Ognevia by Heptner and Dolgov (1967), who demonstrated that mirabilis is not conspecific with pacificus , as had been suggested earlier ( Bobrinskii et al., 1965). Hutterer (1982 b) suggested a closer relationship with Sorex (Homalurus) alpinus because of shared derived features of genital morphology. Karyotype has 2n = 38, FN = 66 ( Zima et al., 1998).
