Remarks. The males of M. serrulatus are distinguished from those of other Merodon species by the following combination of characters: antenna black; flagellum almost 1.9 times longer than wide; legs black; mid coxa bare posteriorly; abdomen black; abdominal tergite 2 with a pair of orange maculae laterally; tegites 2–4 with a pair of greyish pollinose fasciae. The characters of the male genitalia were illustrated in detail by Marcos-García et al. (2007). Merodon serrulatus was collected on the southern slopes of the central regions of Elburz Mountains. This species occurs in southern Europe , Romania, Ukraine eastwards to Mongolia and west Siberia, Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Israel, Jordan and Turkey (Speight 2016).
