Previously recorded from southwestern Mexico to Ecuador, including San José Province in Costa Rica ( Drake & Hottes 1952; Matsuda 1962; Aristizábal 2002; Polhemus & Polhemus 2002; Padilla-Gil & Nieser 2003; Camacho & Molano 2005; Molano et al. 2005, 2008; Molano & Camacho 2006; Valencia et al. 2006; Morales & Molano 2008; Posso & González 2008; Galindo et al. 2009; Morales & Castro 2010; Mondragón & Morales 2013). Specimens examined were found in backwater areas of rivers, puddles close to rivers, lagoons, and temporary pools along roadsides. The species is found in the Pacific Slope, the Central Valley, and the northern lowlands of Costa Rica, from sea level to 1,200 m a.s.l., and is herein recorded for the first time from Alajuela, Guanacaste, and Puntarenas provinces.

La Tigra, Esperanza River, N 10° 19.947’, W -84° 34.682’, 284 m a.s.l., 11.VII.2009, (B. Pacheco): 1 female, 3 nymphs ( MZUCR). Chachagua, N 10° 19’ 47.1’’, W -84° 33’ 38.9’’, 259 m a.s.l., (B. Pacheco): 1 male, 2 females, 3 nymphs ( MZUCR). San Ramón, UCR, Little Forest Sede de Occidente, X 483,539, Y 230,104, 1074 m a.s.l., XI.2008, (B. Pacheco): 1 male, 2 females ( MZUCR). Guanacaste— Stream in the entrance of Cerro Cacao Reserve, 1200 m a.s.l., 4.X.1998, (M. Springer): 1 male, 1 female ( MZUCR). Puntarenas— Montezuma waterfall, 0 m a.s.l., IV.1995, (C. Nolting): 1 female ( MZUCR). Golfito, (A. Rodríguez): 1 female ( MZUCR). San José— Ciudad Colón, Universidad para la Paz Park Lake, 2.IX.2000, 1 male ( MZUCR).
