Belostoma minor (de Beauvois, 1805) View in CoL

We found Belostoma quite commonly in St. Thomas in a variety of ghuts and ponds. However, the vast majority of specimens were too immature to identify. We only found adult B. minor in Turpentine Run ghut and at the Herman E. Moore Golf Course in St. Thomas. Previously, this species was known from the southern United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico ( Wolcott 1948a; Lauck 1964; Bass 2009; Muñoz Riviaux et al. 2010; Naranjo et al. 2010; Lanigan and Hyslop 2011). This is the first record from the US Virgin Islands. At least two other species (see above) could be found on St. Thomas and St. John ( Barber 1939).
