Minuca burgersi (Holthuis, 1967) View in CoL
This fiddler crab was very common. We found it in on St. Thomas from the lowest reaches of Neltjeberg Ghut, well inside the tree line, as much as 100 metres from the sea in ghuts and artificial ditches. We also found it on St. Thomas in estuarine and brackish conditions at Magens Beach, Mandahl Bay, Abi Beach, Mangrove Lagoon, and a ditch in Crown Bay, often in freshwater. We also found large numbers of this species in the saline ponds on Saba Island (new record). Beatty (1968), Chase and Hobbs (1969), and Crane (1975) give records from St. Thomas and St. Croix.
