Caenis sp.

We found a single nymph of this family ( Caenidae ) on St. Thomas in Spring Ghut, in debris just below the spring head. There are five previous records of this genus from the West Indies. Two undescribed forms were reported from Puerto Rico ( Traver 1938). Caenis cubensis Malzacher et al., 2007 is from Cuba, and both C. femina Hofmann and Sartori, 1999 and C. catherinae Hofmann and Thomas, 1999 are from Guadeloupe Island ( Hofmann et al. 1999). Adults will need to be collected to determine the identity of our species.
