Morellia setosa Zielke, 1971b: 75 View in CoL . Type locality: DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, Virunga National Park , towards Mt. Kamtembe. Holotype Ƌ, RMCA.

Redescription. Male. Colour. Black, with grey pruinosity. Frontal vitta and fronto-orbital plate black; face, parafacial and gena black with silver pruinosity; antenna black with grey pruinosity; palpus pale brown; mesonotum metallic black with one silver-dusted central vitta along presutural acrostichals, pleura silver pruinose; postpronotal lobe, notopleuron and anepisternum silver pruinose, and silver dusted between dorsocentrals and intra-alars; pleura silver pruinose; legs pale brown; haltere yellow; calypters whitish, upper calypter on outer half white and opaque; wing without dark markings; abdomen with weak grey pruinosity.

Body length: 6.0 mm; wing length: 6.0 mm.

Head. Eyes bare but with the usual minute and scattered hairs, separated at level of anterior ocellus by about 0.10 of head width; frons divergent towards lunule; ocellar triangle with 3 or 4 pairs of setae; 13–15 pairs of frontal setae; postpedicel 1.8–2.0 times the length of pedicel; pedicel with 2 setae and few setulae; arista plumose, with 15–17 cilia, bare apicad, and with some secondary plumes as far as level of 5th to 7th cilia; vibrissa shorter than arista; 1 strong supravibrissal seta, and many other setulae that extend to level of middle of postpedicel; 6 subvibrissal setae followed by 5 genal setae.

Thorax. Acrostichals 0+1; dorsocentrals 0+2; intra-alars 1+1; presutural 1; prealar 1, strong; supra-alars 2; postpronotals 3; notopleuron with 2 long, subequal setae and covered with ground-setulae; postalars 2; intrapostalar 1; scutellum with 1 basal, 1 discal and 1 apical pairs of setae, and latero-ventrally with many setae, the basalmost ones downcurved; postalar wall bare; suprasquamal ridge bare; proepisternal depression bare; proepimeron with about 3–4 long setae and a few setulae; prosternum broad and bare; anepisternum with a posterior row of about 4 setae, with 3 weak setae upcurved on upper-anterior corner, and covered with long setulae; katepisternals 1+2; anepimeron extensively setulose; katepimeron with 1 setula; anatergite bare; katatergite setulose. Legs: fore femur with a posterodorsal row of setae on apical two-thirds becoming shorter basad, and a complete posteroventral row of setae; fore tibia with an anterodorsal row of short and strong setae, 1 dorsal, 1 posterodorsal and 1 posteroventral preapical setae, 1 ventral apical seta, and a brush-like ctenidium on ventral surface; fore tarsus with 2–3 long setae on basal segment; mid femur with a tubercle at apex of anterodorsal to dorsal surfaces bearing about 4 spines that continue as about 4–5 posterodorsal to posterior setae, with only long setulae ventrally, 4–5 posteroventral setae on apical third, and 1 anterior seta in middle third; mid tibia with an anterodorsal comb-like ctenidium of strong setae on basal half that continues with fine setae on basal half, a row of very strong and very short dorsal setulae, a posteroventral row of 3 strong setae on basal two-thirds, 4 short and strong posterior setae on apical two-thirds, 1 anterodorsal and 1 dorsal preapical setae, and 2 ventral apical setae; hind femur with an anteroventral row of setae, of which one at middle is stronger, an anterodorsal row of setae, 3 weak posteroventral setae on apical fourth, a ventral row of weak setae on basal half, 2 posterodorsal preapical setae, and a few long posteroventral setulae on apical fourth; hind tibia slightly curved, with 5 anterodorsal setae of which one at middle is longer, a dorsal row of short but strong setulae, a long and strong posterodorsal seta on apical third, 2 posterior setae on basal third, 1 dorsal and 1 anterodorsal preapical setae, 2 anteroventral and 1 posteroventral apical setae, and a posterior brush-like ctenidium; hind tarsus without modifications in shape or bristling. Wing with a uniform covering of microtrichia; dm-cu almost straight; stem-vein bare on dorsal surface, and ventrally with about 5 short setulae before humeral cross-vein and bare after humeral cross-vein; R2+3 bare on dorsal and ventral surfaces; R4+5 setulose from base to midway to r-m on dorsal surface and at base on ventral surface; 3–4 strong setae on basicosta.

Abdomen. With a lateral tuft of setulae on syntergite 1+2, tergites 4 and 5 with setae laterally; sternite 1 setulose; posterior margin of sternite 5 concave and bare ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 131 – 143 ).

Terminalia. Ventral surface of cercal plate with 2 spines; surstylus with about 4 setae basally and setulae apically ( Figs 140–142 View FIGURES 131 – 143 ); aedeagal apodeme narrowed apically; basiphallus long; aedeagus bare; gonopod with 3 long and strong setae on basal half; paramere with many setae apically and on middle third ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 131 – 143 ).

Female. Unknown.

Material examined. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: Mubuliba, volcano Nyamuragira , 2000–2324 m, 26.vi.1935, G.F. de Witte, 2 ƋƋ paratypes ( BMNH) ; Tshamugussa , 2250 m, 10.viii.1934, G.F. de Witte, 1 Ƌ paratype ( BMNH) .

Distribution. AFROTROPICAL: Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo.
