Psilochorus hooki View in CoL new species

Figs. 77–81, 191

Type. ɗ holotype from Pioneertown, UC Burns Reserve (34.157 N, 116.495 W), San Bernardino County, California, USA; coll: J Freilich, 23-May-1995, EM.

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the hooked shape of the procursus.

Diagnosis. Specimens may be distinguished by: a sharply pointed and curved tipped procursus (Fig. 80), and a patterned sternum (Fig. 81). Females are not known.

Male: (Holotype) (Figs. 77–81) Total length: 2.42; carapace length: 0.86; carapace width: 0.87; leg 1: 20.94 (5.97 + 0.31 + 5.74 + 7.63 + 1.29); tibia 2: 3.42; tibia 3: 2.60; tibia 4: 3.46. 24 leg I tarsal segments; femur1/carapace length: 6.94; RT at 8.2%; DT at 4.8%. Color of carapace and abdomen typical for genus. Sternum patterned as follows; background dusky, light posteriorly directed triangle located behind labium, small light triangles located at each coxal site (Fig. 81). Spur located on the proximal half of the chelicera, projecting out from cheliceral face, end sharply rounded (Figs. 77, 78). Procursus distal half very slightly swollen, end curving retrolaterally, sharply pointed (Fig. 80). Bulb apophysis linear, end curved (Fig. 79).

Remarks. The spur of P. hooki new species is similar to P. californiae , however the procursus separates the species. It shares a patterned sternum with only P. apicalis in which the spur location on the proximal half of the chelicerae and the procursus shape separate the two.

Distribution. Southern California.
