Subfamily Cretobibioninae Skartveit & Ansorge, 2020 View in CoL Genus Cretobibio Skartveit & Ansorge, 2020
The following characters of the new species are diagnostic for the genus: small midge with antenna approximately as long as head, wing with vein R 4 present, more weakly sclerotized than R 5 , r -m oblique, basal section of M 3+4 shifted in distal wing half connecting M 2. Dense microtrichia on the wing membrane found in the type species are not visible in the Brazilian specimen, however this might be a taphonomic effect because microtrichia were not recorded yet in any Crato fossil .
