Type Locality: "lower Columbia River, near lower mouth of Willamette River, [Multnomah Co.,] Oreg[on]." [ USA].

Vernacular Names: Townsend's Chipmunk.

Distribution: SW British Columbia ( Canada), W Washington and Oregon to the Rogue River ( USA).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Subgenus Neotamias . Formerly included ochrogenys , siskiyou and senex ; see comments under those species. Reviewed by Sutton (1993, Mammalian Species No. 435).
