Description of holotype (♂). Length: 12.8 mm, maximum elytral width: 7.0 mm.

General appearance. Elongate, with slender legs and as in Figures 3 View FIGURES 3 A–C.

Head ( Fig. 3D View FIGURES 3 ). Black with clypeus and antennae fulvous. Clypeus flattened, glabrous, wider than long, widest at center, anterior corners rounded, anterior margin sinuate, slightly emarginate, not reflexed at center, densely punctate. Frons and vertex sparsely punctuate. Vertex covered with black pruinosity at center. Antennal clubs long, about 1.5 times the clypeus length.

Pronotum ( Figs. 3A and 3D View FIGURES 3 ). Black, octagonal, slightly wider than long, moderately convex, not longitudinally hollow at center of disk, sides abruptly converging anteriorly in front of middle, narrowing smoothly from middle to base, widely rounded posteriorly, anterior angles obtuse, rounded at apex, posterior angles rounded and slightly projecting posteriorly, posterior margin broadly emarginated medially. Surface covered with black pruinosity over thick, rounded, small punctuation. Margins with scattered, fulvous setae. Decorated with pale yellow, chalky material as follows: narrow band along all margins, interrupted at center of lateral margin; longitudinal band not reaching margins at center of disk; two symmetric small comma-shaped patches at center of each semidisk.

Scutellum . Triangular, wider than long, sides arcuate, apex rounded, surface sparsely punctate, covered with black pruinosity.

Elytron ( Fig. 3A View FIGURES 3 ). Longer than wide, widest at middle, with seven striae, six dorsally and one on lateral declivity. Black, with anterior margin and juxtascutellar area fulvous. Decorated with pale yellow chalky material as follows: two narrow, sinuate bands at approximately one and two thirds of total length, not reaching lateral margins, second band wider than first; shorter, vertical band at juxtascutellar margin of sutura.

Pygidium ( Fig. 3E View FIGURES 3 ). Black with apex fulvous. Convex, wider than long, with apex rounded covered with erect, whitish setae. Fully covered with yellow chalky material with exception of apex and narrow, short, longitudinal band at two thirds of disk.

Ventral side ( Fig. 3C View FIGURES 3 ). Black. Ventrites fully covered with yellow chalky material.Anal sternites without chalky material and hollow at center.

Legs. Fulvous. Protibia bidentate, lacking terminal spur. Mesotibial posterior margin with obsolete tooth medially. Metatibial Posterior margin with small tooth medially. First metatarsomere slightly longer than second. Metatarsomeres with thick, fulvous yellow bristles all along internal side of metatarsus.

Male Genitalia. As shown in Figs. 3 View FIGURES 3 F–H.

Allotype (♀) differs from male by the following characters (Figs. I–M). Length: 13.6 mm, maximum elytral width: 7.2 mm. More robust than male and with wider protibia, clypeus black, with fulvous narrow band along anterior margin ( Fig. 3L View FIGURES 3 ); pronotum glabrous, dark orange without chalky material or pruinosity; elytron with large fulvous band at anterior margin, wider band along sutura, narrowing towards apex; scutellum dark orange. Antennal club much shorter than clypeus length. Pygidium much wider than long, with wide pale-yellow chalky band along anterior and lateral margins, not covering anterior corners ( Fig. 3M View FIGURES 3 ); pygidium apex horizontally hollow at apical third.

Type series variability. Males: length 11.3–11.8 mm; the colour of the integument and the distribution of yellowish chalky material does not vary significantly, but the pygidium sometimes is fully covered with chalky material. Females: length 12.9–13.4 mm; neither the colour of the integument nor the distribution of yellowish chalky material vary significantly across specimens.

Distribution. Guangxi province, China.

Diagnosis. Paratrichius zonatus new species can be easily separated from the other two similar species inhabiting the mainland of China, Paratrichius iwasei Kobayashi & Fujioka, 2013 and Paratrichius zideki Krajcik, 2011 , by the anterior margin of its clypeus, which is not reflexed, and by the presence of pale yellow chalky material. Moreover, its female is completely orange red in color. In any case, the shape of its male parameres is very distinctive and can exclude any doubt about its correct identification ( Figs. 3F View FIGURES 3 , 4 View FIGURES 4 ).
