Paratrichius adornatus Ricchiardi , new species

( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 A–N)

Type material. Holotype: ♂ ( IZAS), Sichuan, Near Pingwu , 1500 m, 27 June 2015, A. Gorodinski legit . Allotype: ♀ ( ERC), same data as holotype . Paratypes: 1♂ 1♀ ( ERC) , 1♀ ( IZAS), same data as holotype but 27 June 2011 ; 1♂ ( ERC), Sichuan, Pingwu env., 1500 m, 10 July 2015, V. Patrikeev legit ; 2♂♂ ( ERC), Sichuan, Pingwu , 6 July 2007 .

Description of holotype (♂). Length: 10.2 mm, elytral width: 5.8 mm.

General appearance. Elongate, with slender legs as in Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 A–C.

Head ( Fig. 1D View FIGURES 1 ). Black, slightly shiny, wider than long, widest at one third of length from anterior margin. Anterior corners of clypeus rounded, with anterior margin reflexed, convex at center but not forming lobe. Covered with scattered, long, erect fulvous setae. Clypeus and frons covered with pale yellow chalky material; vertex with two maculae of similar material at sides. Antennae fulvous. Antennal clubs very long, about 1.8 times the clypeus length.

Pronotum ( Fig. 1A View FIGURES 1 ). Octagonal, wider than long, moderately convex, longitudinally hollow at center, sides almost parallel at middle, widely rounded posteriorly, anterior angles obtuse, rounded at apex, posterior angles rounded and slightly projecting posteriorly, posterior margin broadly emarginated medially. Black, matt, with longitudinal triangular fulvous band at center, enlarging towards posterior margin, black parts covered with pruinosity; with a band of pale-yellow chalky material all around margins, widening close to posterior corners, exhibiting central longitudinal band from anterior margin to middle of disc, and two patches of same material on disk; with scattered, erect, fulvous setae throughout except on pre-scutellar part; covered with large but shallow punctuation.

Scutellum . Triangular, wider than long, sides arcuate, apex rounded, surface sparsely punctate, matt and covered with black pruinosity.

Elytron ( Fig. 1A View FIGURES 1 ). Longer than wide, widest before mid length, with seven striae, six dorsally and one on lateral declivity. Black, matt, with large fulvous band along each margin and six pale yellow, chalky patches.

Pygidium ( Fig. 1F View FIGURES 1 ). Convex, wider than long, rugulose, covered with scattered, erect, fulvous setae; apex rounded. Black, covered with pale yellow chalky bands at sides, not covering anterior corners.

Ventral side ( Fig. 1C View FIGURES 1 ). Black, with tergites partially fulvous. Ventrites partially covered with pale yellow chalky, elongate patches. Anal sternites not hollow at center.

Legs. Tibiae mostly fulvous, meso- and meta-femora brown. Protibia externally with two teeth at apex, lacking terminal spur. Mesotibial posterior margin with obsolete tooth medially. Metatibial posterior margin with obsolete, small tooth medially; first metatarsomere slightly longer than second; metatarsi with some fulvous bristles at apex of tarsomeres.

Male genitalia. As in Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 G–I.

Allotype (♀) differs from male by the following characters ( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 J–N). Length: 11.5 mm, width: 6.7 mm. More robust than male, mostly black, shiny, glabrous. Antennal club about 1.2 times the clypeus length. Elytra with chestnut brown band along anterior, sutural and posterior margins. Pygidium much wider than long, horizontally hollow in apical third, black, shiny, covered with scattered, erect fulvous setae, with four small patches of pale-yellow chalky material. Protibia wider than in male. All tibiae chestnut-coloured with apex black. All femora black. Anal sternites not hollow at center.

Type series variability. The color pattern of integuments and the distribution of chalky material is constant in all males, with a single exception: one paratype male shows the black part of pronotum slightly reduced. Also, occasionally the female is completely black.

Distribution: Sichuan province, China.

Diffrerential diagnosis. Paratrichius adornatus new species stands out at first sight from all the other species of Paratrichius inhabiting the mainland of China by its peculiar pattern formed by the color of the integuments and by the distribution of chalky material. The parameres ( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 G–H) are similar to those of Paratrichius oberthuri (Moser, 1902) , but they are more arched upwards and exhibit a pointed apex in lateral view.

Etymology. From the latin “adorned” for ornamented.
