Copris ruficollis Germar, 1823: 104 View in CoL [transferred to Canthidium View in CoL by Harold 1867a: 41; here transferred to the subgenus Canthidium View in CoL ; see Bousquet (2016) for the publication year]. Type locality: Brazil (“Brasilia”). Type material: Probably some syntypes at ZMHB—ex Germar collection. Distribution: Brazil: Pará (Martínez & Halffter 1986a) [but see the type locality of its junior synonym].

Onthophagus cruentus Perty, 1830: 42 View in CoL , plate 9, fig. 1 [synonymized by Harold 1867a: 41]. Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo (“Brasilia australi, Prov. S. Pauli”). Type material: According to Scherer (1983), no syntypes were found at ZSMC, where they were supposed to be deposited. The last author to examine a specimen from the type series was Harold (1867a).
