Type material. CHINA, Yunnan Province: Holotype female from Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Menghai County, Mengsong Township , 22.07°N, 100.56°E, 1340 m, 1 August 2020, R. Zhong, W. Zhang, Y. Zhang, Z. Deng & Z. Li leg. ( CBEE, LJ202004211 ). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the type locality, the Mengsong Township; adjective.

Diagnosis. The female of P. mengsongensis Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. resembles that of P. confusa Jäger et al., 2006 ( Jäger et al. 2006) by: 1) Anterior margins of LL broad U-shaped; 2) IDS with spherical structure latero-anteriorly. It can be recognised by IDS with long stick-shaped structures in posterior part connecting turning point and FD (broader in P. confusa ).

FEMALE (LJ202004211): Measurements: Medium sized. Body length 10.6, DS length 5.1, width 4.8, OS length 5.5, width 3.5. Eyes: AME 0.17, ALE 0.26, PME 0.19, PLE 0.22, AME–AME 0.22, AME–ALE 0.15, PME–PME 0.30, PME–PLE 0.40, AME–PME 0.38, ALE–PLE 0.34, CH AME 0.42, CH ALE 0.38. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2121, 1014; Fe I–II 323, III–IV 322; Pa I–III 101, IV 100; Ti I–II 2228, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 3025, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 6.7 (1.8, 1.1, 1.5, –, 2.3); I 22.4 (6.6, 2.3, 6.3, 5.6, 1.6); II 26.1 (7.2, 2.6, 7.5, 6.6, 2.2); III 18.0 (5.7, 1.9, 5.0, 4.1, 1.3); IV 21.3 (6.8, 1.2, 5.4, 5.9, 2.0). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 19 denticles.

Epigyne ( Figs 165A–C View FIGURE 165 ): As in diagnosis. EF wider than long.AB indistinct. LL touching each other along the middle line in posterior half. FW diverging posteriorly, leading to mushroom-shaped structures at antero-lateral part. FD narrow, laterad.

Colouration ( Figs 166A–B View FIGURE 166 ): DS yellowish-brown with many dark tiny spots, some lines and dark setae, margin with thin dash line and many dark spots. Fovea and striae distinctly marked. OS dorsally reddish brown with several dark dots, ventrally brown with several dark marks, irregularly arranged.
