Type material. CHINA, Sichuan Province: Holotype male from Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Chinese Academy of Sciences , Maoxian mountain ecosystem positioning station, 31.69°N, 103.90°E, 1851 m, 24 April 2015, G. Huang & Z. Zhang leg. ( CBEE, LJ2353 ). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin adjective spiralis , -is, - e, meaning “helical”, referring to the shape of E in ventral view; adjective.

Diagnosis. The male of P. spiralis Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. is similar to that of P. jiangi spec. nov. by the filiform E and the discoidal E base. It can be diagnosed by the following characters: 1) T with acute protrusion at prolateral margins; 2) E with long apophysis at its basal part (T without prolateral protrusion and E without apophysis in P. jiangi spec. nov.).

MALE (LJ2353): Measurements: Small sized. Body length 7.4, DS length 3.4, width 3.2, OS length 4.0, width 2.8. Eyes: AME 0.15, ALE 0.23, PME 0.17, PLE 0.19, AME–AME 0.17, AME–ALE 0.08, PME–PME 0.23, PME–PLE 0.35, AME–PME 0.27, ALE–PLE 0.25, CH AME 0.38, CH ALE 0.29. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2101; Fe I–II 323, III 333, IV 331; Pa I–IV 101; Ti I–IV 2026; Mt I–II 1014, III 2024, IV 3037. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 5.6 (1.6, 0.9, 1.1, –, 2.0); I 12.7 (3.7, 1.5, 3.6, 2.9, 1. 0); II 14.7 (4.0, 1.8, 4.4, 3.3, 1.2); III 11.0 (3.4, 1.4, 2.8, 2.6, 0.8); IV 12.4 (3.9, 0.9, 3.4, 3.1, 1.1). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 29 denticles.

Palp ( Figs 229A–C View FIGURE 229 ): As in diagnosis. C elongated, arising from the T at 1:00–2:00 o’clock position, bent apically at almost a right angle. E arising from T at 12:00– 12:30 o’clock position, with long, filiform spiral tip. RTA arising proximally from Ti, standing out at almost a right angle from Ti, divided only at the tip.

Colouration ( Figs 230A–B View FIGURE 230 ): DS yellow with dark spots and marbled pattern especially between fovea and eyes, a lighter submarginal band and margin with thin dashed line. Fovea and striae distinctly marked. OS dorsally reddish-brown, with a white thin transverse line at posterior part. OS ventrally yellow with reddish-brown dots, few irregularly arranged. Most of them arranged in two posteriorly converging rows.
