Peracca macritchiensis Tan & Ingrisch, 2014: 553 View in CoL View Cited Treatment —Tan, 2017: 68; Tan et al., 2023: 6 (bioacoustics)

Specimens examined. PENINSULAR MALAYSIA: Johor State: PFR • 1♁; Sisek Trail ; N1.82768, E103.83324, 71.6± 8.2 m.a.s.l.; 19 August 2023, 20h24; among rattan leaves ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ); coll. M. K. Tan, Amira A. Muhammad & N. Ashikin Abdullah; PANTI.23.47 (ZRC) GoogleMaps

Remarks. Material from PFR represents a new locality record after Singapore and Tioman Island (Gorochov, 2011; Tan & Ingrisch, 2014). With the new material from PFR, we found that the cercus morphology of Peracca macritchiensis is indistinguishable with that of Peracca tiomani from Pulau Tioman (Gorochov, 2011, 2015) ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ). Gorochov (2015) postulates that P. macritchiensis could be a junior synonym of P. tiomani . However, the calling songs and stridulatory anatomy—both are potentially important species characters—are not yet examined for P. tiomani . Hence, to avoid confusion, we tentatively put these two species as distinct.

Ecology. Similar to observations in Singapore, we found this species mostly dwelling among rattan plants.

Type locality. SINGAPORE

Distribution. PENINSULAR MALAYSIA (Johor State: PFR [new]); SINGAPORE

Calling song (1♁, 30.5°C) ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). The calling song of the male recorded from PFR is not different from that recorded from Singapore (see Tan et al., 2023). The calling song consists of a continuous trill. The syllable duration is 7.2±0.3 ms (6.8–7.6 ms) (somewhat shorter than that reported in Tan et al., 2023) and the interval between consecutive syllables is 5.3±0.3 ms (5.0–5.7 ms). The syllable repetition rate is 80±1 syllables s−1 (79–83 syllables s−1), which is very similar to the rate reported in Tan et al. (2023). The call spectrum is broad-based and has a peak frequency of 30.5±0.9 kHz (29.3–31.2 kHz), which is also similar to that reported in Tan et al. (2023).
