Similar to C. album (15), C. missouriense (16) and C. striatiforme (17) but tall, stem often striped with red, erect, fairly richly branched in the upper part; leaves olive to brownish green; blade of lower and middle leaves lanceolate, up to 7 x 4 cm, with several teeth; bracts narrowly lanceolate, usually entire; inflorescence spike-like; seed c. 1 mm. - For differences from C. pratericola (12) see under that species. - The seeds do not ripen in Norden.
