Notes
The name Sphaerosyllis hystrix has been applied to a number of specimens worldwide which likely belong to other species. Several specimens from Greece previously identified as Sphaerosyllis hystrix were assigned to Sphaerosyllis boeroi Musco, Çınar & Giangrande, 2005 after re-examination ( Faulwetter et al. 2011b). It is likely that other specimens recorded under the name Sphaerosyllis hystrix from Greece actually belong to different species. Type locality: Mediterranean (Gulf of Naples).
