COLEOPTERA

[Unidentified sp.]

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, 83 % of the arthropod fauna of 110 dissected nests (González et al. 2000). HYMENOPTERA

[Unidentified sp.]

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, 48 % of the arthropod fauna of 110 dissected nests (González et al. 2000) HEMIPTERA

Reduviidae : Triatominae

Psammolestes arthuri (Pinto, 1926)

( Ribeiro Júnior et al. 2006).

Note: original record was not found. This association is not mentioned in the work of Ribeiro Jr. et al. (2004). Psammolestes coreodes (Bergroth, 1911)

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, eggs, nymphs, and 302 adults in 110 dissected nests ( González et al. 2000a); in birds’ nests ( Yeo et al. 2005, following González et al. 2000b).

Psammolestes tertius Lent & Jurberg, 1965 View in CoL

BRAZIL: Ceará: Cráteus ( Soares et al. 2001) ; Minas Gerais: Itanhomí ( Soares et al. 2001).

Note: Soares et al. (2001) state that “the species of Furnariidae found in Brazil in the regions studied are Phacellodomus rufifrons and Pseudoseisura cristata in Ceará and Phacellodomus rufifrons and Annumbius annumbi in Minas Gerais (Pinto, 1978; Ridgely and Tudor, 1994; Sick, 1997). We could not identify all the birds in the nests studied, since some of them were abandoned, but the distribution and ecological aspects of nest shape according to Vaurie (1980) and Sick (1997) indicate that only these three species could be responsible for their construction in our sample areas, eliminating the possibility that other Furnariidae species or Mimus saturninus are involved.” In conclusion, the nests where the specimens of P. tertius were collected can be only assigned to a Furnariidae bird.

Rhodnius nasutus Stål, 1859

BRAZIL: ( Anonymous 2005); on the crowns of the trees and bird’s’ nests found there ( Sarquis et al. 2006, following Alencar 1987); Ceará, “o encontro [of R. nasutus ] em ninhos de aves da família Furnariidae é comum” (Ribeiro Jr. et al. 2004); ( Abad-Franch et al. 2005).

Note: apparently the original record is that of Alencar (1987). Sarquis et al. (2006) also followed Carcavallo et al. (1998b) [as 1999] but these last authors did not mention R. nasutus in birds´nests, and neither is Alencar (1987) included among the cited references.

Triatoma guasayana Wygodzinsky & Abalos, 1949

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, only present in Mennonite localities, nymphs and 8 adults in 110 dissected nests ( González et al. 2000a); in birds’ nests ( Yeo et al. 2005, following González et al. 2000b).

Triatoma View in CoL [ infestans View in CoL ] melanosoma Martinez, Olmedo & Carcavallo, 1987 View in CoL

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, 3 adults in 110 dissected nests ( González et al. 2000a); in birds’ nests ( Yeo et al. 2005, following González et al. 2000b).

Triatoma platensis Neiva, 1913

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, eggs, nymphs, and 18 adults in 110 dissected nests ( González et al. 2000a); in birds’ nests ( Yeo et al. 2005, following González et al. 2000b).

Triatoma sordida [ sordida ? (Stål, 1859)]

PARAGUAY: Paraguayan Chaco, eggs, nymphs, and 26 adults in 110 dissected nests ( González et al. 2000a); in birds’ nests ( Yeo et al. 2005, following González et al. 2000b).

Anumbius annumbi + Phacellodomus rufifrons

Note: Except for one month (January), when only nests of P. rufifrons were collected (see below P. rufifrons rufifrons ), the data given by Dias (1968: Quadros 1-4) were not discriminated between A. annumbi and P. rufifrons nests, the same for Diotaiuti et al. (1993), and Sherlock & Guitton (1974) did not discriminate them either.
