There is no evidence that Gmelin knew of Goeze’s work and we regard the name Coccus clematidis Gmelin to be a junior synonym of Coccus clematitis Goeze syn. n., because both authors cite the same reference by Geoffroy (1762). Current status: Lindinger (1912: 363) treated Gmelin's name as a junior synonym of Parthenolecanium persicae persicae (Fabricius) .
